310Stirring the Soul
posted by Jeffrey on June 12th, 2007
Every now and then I come across a song or a quote that just strikes that same note as the tuning fork within my soul…and it rings in perfect harmony.
Yesterday I read such a quote in a book and today I heard a song of the same nature…just thought I’d share:
The quote:
“The mind that opens to a new idea
never comes back its original size.”
The lyrics:
“I just found out theres no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above
…
Id like to think the best of me
Is still hiding up my sleeve
…
They love to tell you stay inside the lines
But somethings better on the other side
…
I am invincible
I am invincible
I am invincible
As long as I’m alive.”
Care to take a stab at who the artist and who the sage is from these quotes?

I’ll go ahead and tell ya who the sage is as well…it’s actually a quote from Albert Einstein. Who’d have thought?
Glad you liked the brew…Killian’s Irish Red can be hard to beat.

“Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimension.”
–Oliver Wendell Holmes
Jeffrey…I’m new to posting here, but not new to the site. Great blog.

June 14th, 2007 at 12:49 pmhey thanks for chiming in dave. i’m glad that something prompted you out of the proverbial darkness of and that you have graced me (and anyone else reading) with your thoughts.
[aside: i think that might actually be why i blog…to not depend on my own ideas as THE ideas by listening to the thoughts of others…or maybe not?]
anyway, i checked into your info about the origin of that quote and found that the way I have it worded (which is how it was worded in the book I’m reading) actually is from good ole’ Al Einstein. I also found the VERY similar quote you mentioned to truly be from Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Maybe Eintetin was influenced by Holmes’ writings and decided to rip him off… ![]()

July 29th, 2007 at 6:35 amI love that quote by Holmes. It’s in an old spiral bound notebook I still have. Another one from my notebook: “I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than closed by belief.” - gerry spence
