331Our Impending Doom

What if you woke up one day and realized that your “foundation” might be built on shifting sand, and not the rock that you believe it to be on?

In early September I wrote a post entitled The Mighty Crash. I wrote that post from the perspective that I had left foundationalism behind, only to realize mid-way through it that I, in fact, had not.

I ended the post by asking, “Is there still a way to hold a few core beliefs without the rest of them being dependent on those at the core?”.

After nearly two months of mediating on that question, I have concluded that for me the answer is no….and yes.

The “No” Response:
For me (at this time), it is not possible to hold a few core beliefs upon which all others are constructed…at least not permanently. This paradigm affords no room for growth or the changing of one’s mind.

I recently heard a trainer in my business say, “I climbed to the top of the corporate ladder only to realize the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.” The only way to grow from that scenario is to climb back down and start over…but I HATE to backtrack.

The “Yes” Response:
I do feel it is possible for me to explore whatever valuable ideas or “beliefs”, if you prefer, that are dominant in me for the present. I must, however, realize that such ideas/beliefs/whatever may only be temporary and not a permanent part of some dogmatic “foundation” to my life journey–which is not to say that they are without permanent value to my journey.
