You Should Rush to See August
Lao Tzu, a taoist father, once said, “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe”.
If you don’t understand what that means, going to see August Rush will help immensely. The wife, mother-in-law, bro-in-law, and I all took in a matinée of this movie today, and all I can say is WOW!
It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time!
If, like me, you find yourself moved in profound ways by music–not necessarily so much by lyrics (which are just icing on the cake to me)–you’ll love this flick. You’ll love it anyway mind you, but it will especially resonate with those who do not merely listen to the music, but find themselves whisked away into it.
My favorite line of the movie was between Robin Williams (Wizard) and Freddie Highmore (August Rush):
August: “It’s [the music inside him] like someone’s calling out to me. Can only some of us hear it?”
Wizard: “Only some of us are listening.”and…
Wizard: “You know what music is? Harmonic connection between all living beings.”
Good stuff.
