Rethinking reality as we know it

395The End Game

posted by Jeffrey on February 16th, 2008

Here’s a question I’d love to see some response on: What’s your spiritual/religious end game?

What do I mean? Well, for example, some people’s end game will be “to get to heaven”. Others’ might be to save people. Yet others still may have an end game entirely different altogether.

So, what’s your end game…and perhaps more importantly, WHY?

My end game is the redemption of all creation (both humans and “the rest” of the cosmos”) from this “age” into the “age to come.” Heaven will factor into that as a dis-embodied resting place for the dead in Christ, but the real end is a re-embodied existence in the new heavens and new earth.

Why? Because it seems to be the trajectory of the entire Biblical story both implicitly and explicitly. For a great synopsis of this I would suggest The Drama of Scripture.

I don’t think there is an “end game”, per se. Obviously our hope should be an eternity in heaven, but that is only the beginning of eternity, not the end. Definitely there is a “game plan” that includes the things God commands that we do. Winning souls to Christ is one of the biggest.

For all people to live in unconditional love, freedom, peace, joy, well-being and contentment now, not later or in another place.

-The kingdom of God (all the above) is within you and now (Jesus).

It is possible. It will happen. You can wait and see or you can start this very moment.

“It is possible. It will happen. You can wait and see or you can start this very moment.”

Starting this very moment kind of takes one out of the end game because they’re already living it. Neat.
