Obviously our hope should be an eternity in heaven, but that is only the beginning of eternity, not the end. Definitely there is a "game plan" that includes the things God commands that we do. Heaven will factor into that as a dis-embodied resting place for the dead in Christ, but the real end is a re-embodied existence in the new heavens and new earth. Why? Because it seems to be the trajectory of the entire Biblical story both implicitly and explicitly.
