will, i hear what you're saying. for me, the understanding that I AM a perfect expression of Truth actually seems to spur that change in me (and REALLY how i view other people). Do you think that just seeing that in other people would change them without having to try to change them?

truth is the thing that's constantly right before your very eyes & the only way of seeing it is to lift up the veil that's been put there, without our asking by the people who should know better, i.e. the manipulators....what's beautiful, is that more & more people are waking up to this fact & the "power" that they think they have is going to come 'round & bite them very firmly in the ass........& that's the truth.

My biggest issue with seeing Truth simply as a matter of individual expression is that when taken completely it leaves me with no motivation to change anything about myself or my world. I end up accepting the suffering of those countless millions whose lives are harder than mine simply through circumstance.

My own drive to seek and do my best separates the person that I am from the alternative people I could become; the more judgmental and less compassionate versions of the person I am hopefully becoming.

If I can have a sense of right and wrong for my life and experience why then can't I have it for other people? Certainly I don't go voicing my opinions about people whose lives I don't have contact with, but for my closest friends, my willingness to help them know themselves by offering an external and caring perspective I think is a sign of love.

Anyhow, my point is just that the Truth that the Truth is conditional and individual is also, perhaps, bound by certain conditions.

knowing ones self is really very important in understanding things. I really dont know if it is possible though. I mean to really know who you are. Greek phylosophers were on the right track though.

Hmm...so many questions.

According to http://www.carm.org/relativism/whatistruth.htm, "In order for truth to be defined properly, it would have to be a factually and logically correct statement. In other words, it would have to be true. But, perhaps we could look further at truth by determining what it is not. Truth is not error. Truth is not self-contradictory. Truth is not deception. Of course, it could be true that someone is being deceptive, but the deception itself isn't truth.

In relativism, all points of view are equally valid and all truth is relative to the individual. If this were true, then it would seem that this is the only truth relativism would have to offer. But, the problem is that in reality, relativism isn't true for the following basic reason. If what is true for me is that relativism is false, then is it true that relativism is false? 1) If you say no, then what is true for me is not true and relativism is false. 2) If you say yes, then relativism is false. Relativism seems to defy the very nature of truth; namely, that truth is not self contradictory."

The article goes on to discuss the topic of truth in further detail, as do so many other sites. It can be a circular argument depending on the perspective, what 'truth' is being applied to, and who is trying to find that truth. Then there is the discussion of whether or not there is 'absolute truth'. The same argument would apply to that as the author (above) applied to to relative truth. How can someone debate the fact that there is no absolute truth when, by doing so, they are stating that absolute truth IS that there is not any.

But,to answer your questions (or at least a couple of them), I believe/know there definitely are truths and it is possible to know them intellectually. But there is only one Truth that a person can come to an understanding of (question 2) and that is in Jesus. I realize that for some people, there would be no truth in that statement, so some might say it is subjective, at best. But, from my [almost] 52 years here on this earth, that is an absolute truth that I have come to know and believe in. But I suppose that might be better left to another post on another day! :)
