Someone sent me a quote today that said, "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you!" -Pericles (430 B.C.) I think when the truth of that statement is fully understood, then the importance of voting can be fully understood, as well.

always stirring up trouble. i think the short sighted thing of not voting in a presidential election is that there are other things on the ballot, that are more impacting to your daily life that are being voted on. so who gives if you vote for the president, vote for your local district peeps.

then if you need too, vote for a third party candidate. give them some love. &:~)

You and I had this conversation at least once. Voting for the 'lesser of 2 evils' (which I actually said, since McCain was not my first choice of the republican candidates) is not perpetuating a system or candidate that you don't believe in. It is voting for the policies, beliefs, character, and judgement of one of two men who would be our president. For me, there was a clear choice between McCain and Obama. No, I didn't agree with every vote McCain has made or everything he's ever said or done. I can think of nobody I could say that about. But when I looked at the big picture, he represented most of what I do believe in.

The bottom line is that my life will be governed and changed for the better or worse by whichever of them was elected. And our country will be changed forever by whoever was elected president when you look at some of the appointments to the Supreme Court and other issues that are on the table. So I feel that not to put my voice to that fact would take away my right to express my opinion when I disagree with how that man governs or complain about laws enacted and decisions made that have a negative effect on my life. And I believe there will be many of those coming.

In the grand scheme of things, maybe my one vote didn't make a lot of difference. But I had to cast my vote. Too many people have fought and died for my right to do that and I realize their sacrifice now more than I ever have. The freedom to take part in that process did not come without a high price. That's why it is a 'civic duty'. Alexander Hamilton said, "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." I stand for plenty and not voting my convictions is not an option. The very foundation of our country is based on the people electing government officials, not by the government perpetuating itself and us being under its "rule" with no voice. When we sit back and allow the process to happen without us being active in it, we are allowing our country to move toward a dangerous place.

Take away all of the rumors and political rhetoric that has gone around over the last year and I have still have many concerns about our president-elect. I think the numbers of staunch democrats I know who say the same thing adds credibility. I hope I'm surprised by what happens under his watch. But I'm afraid that I won't be. We need to pray fervently that God's hand is on our nation.

hey richard. ha. note the category that many of my posts (including this one) reside in. the category titled "my twisted mind".

ironically there is SOOO much more to that category title than probably meets the eye. hell, i could probably dedicate an entire year's worth of blog posts to breaking that down...

anyway, to answer your question, a lot of these posts come as some combination of working through things within myself, conversation with various people and close friends, and random things that make sense in the moments between sleeping and waking.

out of curiosity, why do you ask?
